CITY OF HAVRE DE GRACE ANNOUNCES 10th ANNUAL MARDI GRAS PARADE.
The Havre de Grace Office of Tourism announced today the Historic Preservation Commission will be holding its 10th Annual Family-Friendly Mardi Gras Parade on Fat Tuesday, February 28, 2017.
The parade route begins along Bourbon Street and ends at the American Legion. Along the route, spectators will receive beads and other throws in true Mardi Gras style. “There will be more than 7,000 throws including over 5,000 authentic Mardi Gras beads,” stated tourism manager Lauri Orzewicz.

MAYOR ORDERS UP LIGHTS BLUE TO HONOR FALLEN SHERIFF DEPUTIES  
By order of Mayor William T. Martin, the City up lights will be lit blue Friday, February 10, 2017 to honor the life’s and distinguished careers of Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey and Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
February 10, 2017 marks the one-year date of the fatal shooting of Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey and Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon while in the line of duty.

Pass the Keys to a Sober Driver Before the Big Game Begins

Havre de Grace, MD – Football fans across the country will celebrate America’s most watched national sporting event, Super Bowl LI, on Sunday, February 5. For many, the celebration will include drinking alcohol.
That’s why highway safety and law enforcement officials are teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a special Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk reminder to urge all football fans to call the right play on Super Bowl weekend by passing the keys to a sober driver before the drinking begins.

BGE Installing New Gas Lines

BGE has started an extensive gas line replacement project in the City. It will be in three phases: phase one will last up to 9 months, the next two phases will last a couple of years. They are up grading the Low-Pressure Gas Lines with High Pressure Lines. Work will be scheduled Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm, no weekends. No Parking Signs posted by BGE should indicate that the restricted parking is only for Mondays-Fridays, 7am to 5pm. Expect delays. Flaggers will be on the job site. Havre de Grace, MD, February 2, 2017 – Havre de Grace Office of Tourism announced today Havre de Grace Restaurant Week will be returning this year February 20 through 26. 
 
Mayor Martin stated in a recent video promoting Restaurant Week “It’s a great way to come together with family and friends to try new dishes and try new places.”  Participating restaurants will be featuring  $10, $20 and $30 specials.  Restaurant Week is organized by the Havre de Grace Office of Tourism, Havre de Grace Chamber of Chamber of Commerce and Havre de Grace Alliance.

YARD WASTE WILL NO LONGER BE COLLECTED IF PLACED IN PLASTIC BAGS.

Representatives from Scarborough Landfill’s contractor – Maryland Environmental Services have informed us that YARD WASTE WILL NO LONGER BE COLLECTED IF PLACED IN PLASTIC BAGS.
The reasons: plastic is not bio-degradable; therefore, will not break down, and the plastic bags are jamming up the sifting equipment which has resulted in costly repairs and time.
WHAT TO DO: Use your trash cans, recycle cans and/or bio-degradable PAPER bags for your yard waste. Branches and sticks – still bundle with twine.
