Approval of Meeting Minutes – April 16, 2025
Reports and Updates -Marina Commission Chair: Josh Argentino -Director of Finance: Abdullahi Abdi -Acting Director of Department of Public Works: Joe Conaway and/or his designee, Yacht Basin Manager: Steve Young
Unfinished / Old Business -Discussion – Capital Projects for 2025 – How are they progressing? -Discussion – Remove fishing from Tydings Park Yacht Basin – Any more updates to this? On 11/14/24 Minutes this was recommended -“The commission recommends the city to investigate the legalities with this and possibly create an ordinance to make this an enforceable statue. The commission recommends the City to get its authority to do so from the State of MD.” -There are still issues of people fishing in the no fishing zone throughout the entire marina, and enforcement of this is difficult, and ties up local resources. The recommendation to remove fishing has been on the agenda and minutes for the Marina Commission since November 2024. This is a safety and civil concern as fishermen are constantly casting towards boats and getting their fishing hooks stuck in the ropes and bouncing sinkers off marina patrons’ boats. -Discussion – Where are we at with bulkhead project? Goettner was shooting elevations at the time of the 4/16/25 meeting. -Discussion – Pier 3 and 5 Redecking Projects – Pier 3 is done – any issues? Pier 5 had a grant applied for by Steve Young, how is that coming? -Discussion – Fish cleaning station at Hutchins Park – was in FY 2025 Marina Commission Report as capital project delivered on 2/3/25 – Joe Conaway doing this project in house – how is it coming? -Discussion – How is the new fuel dock sun shade working out? -Updates on Backburner Projects – dmp site / staircase for Gas Dock Office will be done in house per Joe Conaway / flooring for marina office / dredging date / bulkhead repair date -Update on Delinquent Boats – How many if any? Any unpaid 2025 slips? -Discussion – Pier 6 slip – Bill Ranken old slip – is it rent ready? -Discussion – Any WIFI updates? Where is Think Big now? -Discussion – Gates for each pier was added to 2025 Marina Commission Report on 2/3/25 as capital project – any word on start date/ bids? This should be a priority due to recent events in the marina from delinquents attempting to steal boats in April 2025. -Discussion – Docking Competition coming to town – Possible use of marinas / Lighthouse location – Community Projects will sponsor as non-profit and will be bringing America in Bloom to the city with funds raised. Main event will take place at Lock House. All day event Saturday 9/27/25. -Discussion – Water line replacements on the piers? Constantly breaking. Water line issues on all piers (used well pipe and not UV rated pipe). -Discussion – How are the kiosks working out for ramp payments?
New Business -Discussion – Frost free spigots inoperable on some piers -Discussion – Add NO WAKE ZONE buoys in marina – it seems as if some people do not understand what speed to traverse the marina -Citizen Concerns – Nicole Kontrabecki to speak -Open for Discussion
