Council Member Lizz Clarke

Lizz Clarke is a leader defined by lifelong service, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to Havre de Grace; the city she has chosen and proudly calls home. Guided by a simple philosophy to lead with integrity, stand up for what is right, and deliver results, Lizz is deeply grateful to pour her energy, passion, and decades of service experience into this community. Her commitment to putting others first began at a young age, serving as the president of her volunteer club in high school and earning the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award. Her dedication eventually led her to the military, where she served as a U.S. Army Combat Veteran during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In that environment, she learned firsthand that leadership is a direct responsibility for the people standing next to you. Following her military transition, Lizz continued her mission focused career as a government civilian, first supporting her fellow service members at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and now protecting national security as a Cybersecurity Specialist at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Armed with a degree in Computer Science and studies in Organizational Leadership, she possesses a rare ability to solve complex technical challenges through the lens of strategic, people first leadership.

Beyond her professional expertise, Lizz is a pillar of community advocacy and a devoted champion for the people of Havre de Grace. She has spent the better part of her adult life coaching youth sports, serving as the president of the local youth basketball program and dedicating years to coaching her favorite sports, softball and flag football. Her deep empathy extends to the most vulnerable members of the community, reflected in her lifelong volunteerism and support for multiple animal shelters and rescues. Whether she is fostering a lost kitten, ensuring a local child has access to a warm meal, advocating for a business owner who doesn’t feel heard, or simply offering a hug to a resident in need, Lizz has always made the time to listen. Now serving on the City Council, Lizz is focused on moving the city forward through transparent, collaborative leadership. She is dedicated to being an accessible conduit for all residents.

At the heart of Lizz’s life and service is her family. Lizz and her wife, Wanda, deeply love the vibrant life they have built together in Havre de Grace, the community where they have rooted their lives and their future. Together, they share the joy of raising four sons and welcoming a wonderful daughter-in-law into their lives. Whether they are supporting local youth sports, volunteering together, or enjoying the unique character of the city’s local businesses, family is the foundation that anchors Lizz. Their unwavering love, support, and shared values are what inspire her every day to roll up her sleeves and work toward building a safer, more unified, and thriving Havre de Grace for all families.
