Statement from Mayor William T. Martin on the Passing of Ezra Berger

“It is with heavy hearts that we receive the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Ezra Berger.

Ezra was a true creative force—a maverick whose imagination inspired our entire community. He possessed a rare talent for sparking wonder and leaving a lasting impression. Those who knew Ezra or experienced his artwork knew they were witnessing something truly special.

We were deeply fortunate to have Ezra on our City team. In that time, he became far more than a valued colleague; he was a cherished friend whose passion, warmth, and artistic vision touched us all. His absence will be felt profoundly across Havre de Grace. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Berger family during this difficult time.

Ezra was open about his journey with mental health—both the challenges and the victories. Mental health affects so many in our community, and recent heartbreaking losses have hit us especially hard. Please know that if you are struggling, you are not alone, and help is available.
