City of Havre de Grace Weekly Briefing Week of August 22, 2022

    Department of Admin

    • Public Hearings were held on August 22 and second reading/adoption will take place at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 6.
    • Ordinance No. 1082 – Create a process for establishing legislative priorities and positions and authorizing the Mayor or designee to speak and advocate for the priorities and positions established

    • Ordinance No. 1083 – Temporarily waive property taxes for certain properties owned by Habitat for Humanity

    Community Participation – Thank you!

    • National Night Out (NNO) was a great success this year with the participation of two of our outstanding communities.  The Housing Authority held its annual community meeting and get-together.  Meanwhile, OPAC, our longest participating NNO community, continues to bring folks out to enjoy a great evening of friendship and fun.  Thank you, residents, at the Housing Authority and OPAC communities, for their continued support for our Police Department, their neighborhoods, and crime prevention.
      Back to School
    • School begins on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, which means increased school busses, pedestrian foot traffic, and parents taking their children to school.
    • Please pay attention to school buses that are stopped to pick up children.  Do not overtake and pass a school bus when its lights are activated.  This can result in you receiving a $570 fine and three (3) points on your driver’s license.

    Department of Public Works 

    • The National Guard pumping station construction is underway.
    • Upgrades to our networking system at the Waste Water Treatment Plant will be completed mid-September.
    • Concrete was replaced on the sidewalk on Alliance St.
    • The Joe K trail has reopened following the removal of several large trees that fell during a storm.
    • Please report any weather-damaged trees on City right of ways to the Department of Public Works.

    Department of Planning 

    Upcoming meetings and announcements:

    • The Planning Commission will hold a meeting on September 26th at 6:30pm at City Hall.  The Department of Planning will be discussing the 2023 City of Havre de Grace Comprehensive Plan.  Other items may be on the agenda.  Interested residents should check the posting board at City Hall or check the agenda on the City’s website for additional information.

    Department of Economic Development and Tourism


    • The Department of Housing and Community  Development (DHCD) visited the city of Havre de Grace on Monday, August 23rd to tour the Downtown Main Street District and the State Theater.  The city submitted a grant to DHCD for additional Facade & Tenant Fit-Out funding.
    • The city received a grant from the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway to purchase new bike racks.  The bike racks are expected to be delivered in September and immediately installed upon receipt.
       
    • The city of Havre de Grace will participate in “Harford County Art Week” the week of September 10th – 18th. The Department of Economic Development & Tourism is hosting a Public Art Trolley Tour on Tuesday, September 13th at 11am & 6pm.
