    Office of The Mayor:

    • On Thursday, January 18, 2018 Mayor Martin attended Harford Night in Annapolis.
    • On Saturday, January 20, 2018 Mayor Martin attended the Re-Grand Opening of LAGOM
    • On Sunday, January 21, 2018 Mayor Martin met with Webelos 2 Den from Pack 965 and gave them a tour of City Hall.


    Police Department:
     

    • Havre de Grace Police have a community poll being conducted at nextdoor.com HdG Police Poll please give us feedback on what you would like us to focus on!
    • Havre de Grace Police has specially trained officers who teach Civil Response to an Active Shooter Events if you would like your company, organization, church, or club trained on this please contact Cpl. Petz at 410-939-2121 or danielp@havredegracemd.com and he will schedule this training for you.

    Department of Finance:

     

    • Water Turn Offs will be Tuesday, January 23rd. To avoid turn off fees please pay no later than today, Monday, January 22nd.
    • Coming Soon Resident Self-Service – resident self-service portal is a web portal that allows residents to make requests or file complaints from the web. The resident has the ability to attach documentation or pictures and designate his or her contact preference, either by email or phone. At any point, the resident can go to the portal to check on the status of the case. The resident will automatically get notification along with any other applicable parties. The resident self-service portal smoothly integrates with the my town app allowing each resident the ability to stay on top of all town events and notifications.
    • Coming Soon Permitting self-service – permitting self-service portal allows contractors and homeowners access to a web portal that integrates directly into the city’s system. It allows homeowners and contractors to review permit statuses and inspections.
    • Don’t let a running toilet run up your water bill. Visit the ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY’S website for tips on eliminating leaks in your home and ideas on how to conserve water at: https://www.epa.gov/watersense
    • All unpaid User Benefit Accounts are subject to a 1.5% penalty per month.
    • Make sure all payments have the correct account number/account type listed on the remittance or memo area of your check. Payments are applied to the account designated on the check. Please verify you have the right information on your payment, whether a personal check or bank check.
    • All “bill pay” bank checks are sent through the regular mail and are receipted the day of delivery. Make sure you allow enough time for the bank to print and mail the check to avoid penalty. Water/Sewer turn offs for non payment will be on Tuesday, January 23rd. To avoid the turn off fees please pay by Monday, January 22nd.
    • Sign up for Water/Sewer e-Billing @ www.havredegracemd.com. Click on e-Billing Registration.


    Department of Public Works:

     

    • All City Buildings – A contract has been awarded to DWK Plumbing for the testing of Backflow Preventers located in all City buildings.
    • Water Plant – Permits will be approved in February for ongoing improvements at the City of Havre de Grace Water Plant.
    • Dredging Project is moving forward.
    • Promenade Re-decking Project – bids will be open Wednesday, January 24th at 2pm.
    • Camilla Street Project– relining the 6 inch water main will be starting soon, weather permitting.
    • 2018 Household Hazardous Waste Days scheduled 8am-noon on Feb. 6, May 5, Aug. 7, and Nov. 3. Event Location: 3135 Scarboro Road, Street, MD 21154.
    • Recycling Reminder: Please do not “bag” your recyclables for collection. When the hauler sees bags, he leaves it for the trash truck to collect. All your effort is wasted.

    STORMWATER MANAGEMENT UPDATES

    • The City has 100% design for Lilly Run Phase I, Wetland Enhancement near the current Middle School. Watch for next steps.
    • Stormwater pond revitalization and landscape infiltration areas construction will begin at Concord Point Park after the first of the year. These improvements will help protect the River and Bay from stormwater runoff and the pollutants it carries.
    • Design of pedestrian bridge abutments over Lilly Run near the Lock House continues. Watch for more information on this connection of the Joe K Trail loop.
    • Design of the City’s stormwater management pond retrofit and habitat creation at Bradford Green is underway. Watch for these enhancements soon.
    • Inspections for illicit discharges have been completed for the year with none testing positive for harmful elements.
    • WATCH for other stormwater pollution removal projects happening in the City. The smallest effort counts!!
    • Please report any illicit activity on the storm drains by calling City Hall at 410-939-1800 or by using the “REPORT” button on our website.

    * Reminder: Please keep your storm drains clear of leaves, grass, trash and debris at all times to minimize flooding in the streets and on your property when we have a weather event.

    Department of Economic Development:

    • Kerry Hall, Chairman of the Havre De Grace Economic Development Advisory Board prepared and presented information at the Havre de Grace Public Workshop before the Mayor and City Council regarding the activities and priorities of EDAB, and accomplishment and activities of the board in 2017, on Monday, January 22.
    • The Havre de Grace Office Economic Development staff are continuing to update Main Street program skillsets through a multi-week training program on Main Street Leadership, offered as a cost-free webinar courtesy of grant funding obtained.
    • The Maryland Economic Development Association, MEDA, is hosting the MEDA Economic Development Day in Annapolis at the Miller Senate office Wed., January 24, which, HDGOED will attend. HDGOED also attended the Maryland Retailers Association reception in Annapolis last week.
    • Wed., January 24, the Harford County Office of Economic Development will host a free seminar, Banking on your Business, at the GrondFloor, 2021G Pulaski Hwy., Havre de Grace, from 6 to 7 p.m. The seminar is free of charge and especially helpful for small business owners.
    • HDGOED is represented by Director Erika Quesenbery on the Harford Grants Board and will be part of the judging panel Thurs., January 25, at the Bel Air Library.
    • HDGOED will meet with Harford County Office of Economic Development on Friday, January 26, and other municipal economic development representatives from Bel Air and Aberdeen, for the kick-off 2018 Municipal Economic Development meeting.

     
    Office of Tourism:

    • Tourism represented the City of Havre de Grace at Harford Night in Annapolis on Thursday, January 18
    • Museum directors along with HdG Tourism, HdG Chamber and Harford County Tourism met on January 19 to welcome our new Museum directors. Welcome Jessica LaPota to the Concord Point Lighthouse and Mary Leavens to the Maritime Museum We would also like to welcome Gary Foster as president of the Maritime Museum
    • Lagom (formerly Laurrapin) held a grand reopening party to announce their name change on Saturday, January 20. Congratulations!
    • January 25- Thursday Night Live returns at the Opera House! Join us at 8 pm featuring The New Romance (The Ultimate 80’s Tribute Band).
    • Harford County Restaurant Week runs from January 19- January 28. Participating Havre de Grace Restaurants include Creole de Graw, Lagom, MacGregor’s, Silks, and Tidewater Grille.
    • Mardi Gras parade is quickly approaching on February 13! Visit ExploreHavredeGrace.com to fill out an application to be part of the festivities.
