Mayor Martin signs Charter Resolution 281 into law.
This week Mayor Martin signed into law Charter Resolution 281. Charter Resolution 281 updates the Budget process in the City Charter to incorporate the best practices learned over the last decade. Primarily it segregates the budget into 3 formal areas; personnel costs, non-personnel operating costs, and capital projects. Charter Resolution 281 also restricts Department Directors from transferring funds between these 3 key elements without City Council approval. The goal is to ensure the budget can be understood by as many citizens as possible, so they may better understand how their tax dollars are being spent. Charter Resolution 281 was unanimously passed by The City Council on February 21, 2017 and will go into effect April 12, 2017.
