Message from the Mayor – Harford County Public Schools Balance Enrollment Plan

Dear Citizens of Havre de Grace,

As you may be aware, the Harford County Board of Education has recently released information about a proposed plan to balance enrollment in Harford County Public Schools. While this plan is currently very much still in the “proposal” stage, it has upset many Havre de Grace residents who are concerned that their children may not attend Havre de Grace schools in the future.

As a career Harford County Public school teacher and father of three, I know first-hand how important your child’s school is to you and your family. Although the HCPS Balancing Enrollment Plan is wholly under the jurisdiction of Harford County Public Schools, please know that I will strongly advocate for my Havre de Grace citizens and their desire for their children to remain in Havre de Grace schools.

We are all eager to see all of our students attend the brand-new Havre de Grace Middle / High School, a dream that came true through the hard work and advocacy of Havre de Grace citizens and elected officials.

I urge you to remain informed throughout this lengthy redistricting process. You can learn more about the Balancing Enrollment Plan at HCPS.org.

You can also voice your questions and concerns to your elected leaders who represent you in this process: Board of Education District F Representative Sonja Karwacki (Sonja.karwacki@hcps.org) and County Council District F Representative Curtis Beulah (CBeulah@harfordcountycouncil.com).

Again, please remember that this plan is still very much in the development stage, with a final vote scheduled for Winter of 2022. Your input and informed advocacy will be a key part of this process.

Thank you for your continued passion and pride in all that is Havre de Grace.
