Havre de Grace Weekly Briefing: Week of July 4, 2022

    Department of Administration:

    Procurement:

    • All current and recently closed projects are posted on the City’s website under the Procurement, View Request for Proposals.  The City also uses the State of Maryland’s eProcurement Marketplace program, which has improved our ability to procure goods and services for the City most efficiently and cost-effectively possible.

    Upcoming Events:

    • Concerts in the Park – Friday, July 8, 2022, 7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m., Tydings Memorial Park
    • Farmers Market – Saturday, July 9, 2022, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., 100 block St. John Street
    • 2nd Sunday Hymn Sing – Sunday, July 10, 2022, 5 p.m. – 6 p.m., Tydings Memorial Park

    STAR Centre:

    Trolley Update:

    June 2022:

    • 12 days of operation
    • 174 operating hours
    • Carried 2,835 riders
    • Traveled 1,654 miles 
    • Zero traffic safety issues.

    Department of Public Works:


    Living Shoreline:

    • Progress continues along the shoreline.

    • The City is in the process of receiving boat ramp construction bids. 

    Water Division:

    • The Water Quality Report has been mailed out to City residents. (Click here to view)
    • Bulle Rock water tower maintenance and construction is in progress.
    • Construction at the Water Treatment Plant is complete.
    • Waste Water Treatment Plant – Applied for an updated permit. 

    Plan Review:

    • Plans are being reviewed for the development of Bulle Rock, Greenway Farm, and Sion Hill.

    Capital Projects:

    • The water line on Wilson Street is complete, and the City will begin water line replacement on Green Street.

    Havre de Grace Police Department:

    The Havre de Grace Police Department welcomes two (2) new certified law enforcement recruits to their ranks.  

    • Police Officer Sterling Jones and Police Officer Nathan Klein attended and completed their law enforcement training and education at the Baltimore County Police Department Entrance Level Academy.
    • Both Officer Jones and Officer Klein are welcome additions to the Havre de Grace Police Department.

    National Night Out:

    • Tuesday, August 2, 2022, is National Night Out. 
    • If you are unfamiliar with National Night Out, it is a celebration that enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while encouraging a sense of community. 
    • National Night Out is an excellent opportunity to bring police officers and neighbors together so we can enjoy each other’s company, share great stories, and activities such as “porch parties,” games with kids, storytime, and whatever fun activities your community wants to organize.
    • If you are interested in participating in National Night Out, contact the Havre de Grace Police Department at 410-939-2121 and ask for Cpl. Goertz and we will help to get you started with your planning. 

    The Havre de Grace Police Department SUMMER SAFETY CAMP is back!!

    Join the fun!  There will be Police and Emergency Responder demonstrations.  Learn about K-9, drones, fire prevention, CAT Club, the G.R.E.A.T. Program, physical activities, and lots to learn.

    Kids will randomly be selected between the Havre de Grace Elementary School and Meadowvale Elementary School.  HCPS will provide lunches and snacks.

    Department of Planning: 

    June 2022 Permit Update:

    59 permits were applied for in June 2022:

    • New Construction  –  27
    • Renovation / Addition  –  12
    • Other  –  20  (includes shed, fence, driveway, hot tub, solar panel, etc.)

    Department of Finance: 

    • Pay Online – Water/Sewer, Property Taxes, and Municipal Invoices at  www.havredegrace.com.  Click on the Payment Center Tab.  Register as a user, and you can save, store and schedule payments. Or make a one-time payment using your account number and pin.  Pins are located on your invoice and can be changed by request only.
    • When making tax or water/sewer payments online, please be sure to use the account number for the type of bill for which you are trying to pay.  If you enter your tax id when you are wanting to pay your water bill, the payment will be posted to your taxes.  The payment always follows the account number!
    • Sign up for Water/Sewer e-Billing at www.havredegracemd.com.  Click on eBilling Registration tab located at the top of the home page.
    • Property Tax Bills for 22/23 have been mailed.  Annual payments are due by September 30, 2022. For Those properties qualified by the State, Semi-Annual payments are due by September 30 and December 30, 2022.
    • Properties with outstanding balances for 21/22 or older may have been sold in the County’s Tax Sale. Check with City Hall (410) 939-1800 before attempting to pay your 21/22 or older real property taxes. Payments for any property in Tax Sale must be paid by cash, money order, or certified bank check and no online payments will be accepted.
    • Water/Sewer Bills for July have been mailed.  Payments were due by July 31, 2022.
    • Call Tara Leever at City Hall, (410) 939-1800, ext. 1110, and make arrangements to pay your Water/Sewer account if you are unable to pay your outstanding bill in full.
    • Now is a good time to check your home for water leaks.  Small faucet drips and leaking toilets can increase your bill significantly.  Don’t let a running toilet run up your water bill.  Visit the ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY’S website for tips on eliminating leaks in your home and ideas on how to conserve water at: https://www.epa.gov/watersense.
    • Please Do Not Put Cash in the Drop Box at City Hall.

    Department of Economic Development:

    • The Havre de Grace Renewal Sustainable Maryland Application was submitted on June 29.  The renewal is good for three years.
    • The third edition of the quarterly newsletter, The Havre de Grace Business Beat, was published on Thursday, June 30, and can be found on https://www.subscribepage.com/hdgbusinessbeat
    • The Havre de Grace Main Street Program is now housed under the Department of Economic Development & Tourism.  Julie Ruhnke will continue in her role as the Havre de Grace Main Street Manager.
    • The Main Street Manager will submit a grant application for Community Legacy funding through the Department of Housing & Community Development no later than July 13. The grant request is for funding to support our Facade Improvement & Tenant Fit-Out Program.
