Presentation At the City Council Meeting on October 17, Jackie Seneschal with the Historical Society of Harford County gave a presentation on the Harford 250 Celebration – Celebrating the Best of Harford County, which will be from March 2023-March 2024. Alfred B. Hilton Memorial Unveiling, 11:00 a.m., David Craig Park Police Department Student Traffic Accident Reduction (STAR) This week, October 16-22, 2022, is National Teen Driving Safety Week. Most crashes result from the driver failing to give the proper time and attention to the road and what is going on. This can be avoided, especially for teen drivers, and these crashes can be reduced. Here is what we need from you to keep you and other drivers safe: Put your cell phone down while driving. Make sure you and your passengers are buckled up the entire time the vehicle is in motion. Slow down and obey the speed limit! And to avoid being a victim of a crime, lock your car and take your valuables with you. Please help us reduce and eliminate crashes. You need to follow these simple rules, so everyone arrives at their destination safely. National Drug Take-Back Day The National Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs. This day is also used to educate people about the potential for abuse of medications and accidental ingestion of medications and protect the environment from drugs being washed down the sink or flushed down the toilet. National Drug Take-Back Day is on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Police Department. Come into the Police Department with your medications, and someone will be there to accept them. NEEDLES will not be accepted. We Are Hiring If you are interested in pursuing a career in Law Enforcement, the Havre de Grace Police Department seeks folks who want to work in our great city with amazing people, serving our wonderful community. We are looking for those of you with no law enforcement experience but are willing to attend a Police Academy to become a certified police officer for the Havre de Grace Police Department. We also have positions available for those currently certified police officers who want to lateral over to the Havre de Grace Police Department. Likewise, for those who are not interested in becoming a police officer but want to help our community, we have positions available for Police Communications officers (PCO). The Water Tower should be back online before the next City Council meeting. There are several requests for proposals out for fire hydrant painting, leak detection correlation survey, and a new sidewalk connecting Harris Field to Warren Street. DPW is working to prep the area in David Craig Park for the Sgt. Alfred B. Hilton Memorial that will unveil November 4, 2022, around 11:00 a.m. Director Millisor thanks the DPW crew for the set up and tear down of the event from the City-side, to the staging of the event in conjunction with Bambi Johnson – Oktoberfest was a great success. He also thanks the Building & Maintenance Crew of John Allen, Dave McLaughlin, Ethan Krone, and Mike Shipley, and many others who stayed late to perform preventative maintenance on Concord Point Park before the Oktoberfest festivities to ensure a safe and enjoyable event. This Thursday, October 20 at 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Friday, October 21, there will be a water shut off in the Bradford Green area for a water valve replacement. Please make necessary plans to coordinate water usage during the specified times.
